Hans Richter was born in Vienna in 1920. His first intention was to become a teacher, but from 1945 until 1948 he attended the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts.

At the beginning of his career he was devoted to the painting of portraits and later on to the painting of genre scenes.

His paintings can be found in many official and private collections in Austria, Germany, Switzerland and the USA.
