Paul Grolleron was born in Seigmelay(Yonne) and specialised in painting military subjects, portraits, genre scenes and still life subjects.

Grolleron was taught by Leon Bonnat and appeared at the Paris Salon from 1873. Above all, he painted historical paintings and military subjects which were greatly appreciated by the public. Among these works were " A Reunion in 1870", " Detachment of French Infantry", "Seated Fantassin", "Defending the Road", " Fight in a factory within Paris City walls" and " Soldier of the First Empire on guard"

He died in October 1901 leaving behind a fine body of work and some important artistic glimpses of history.
